Job Description
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to stormwater management and floodplain regulation under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The position focuses on reviewing hydrology, hydraulic modeling, and FEMA map revisions (LOMRs and CLOMRs). We support municipalities in Colorado and beyond with technical floodplain review and compliance services.
This position is well-suited for experienced engineers, including those looking for flexible work arrangements (e.g., part-time or remote). Ideal candidates include professionals with a background in NFIP technical reviews, floodplain management, and related engineering fields who are seeking a meaningful way to apply their expertise.
Essential Responsibilities
- Learn and apply FEMA and NFIP design standards, regulations, and review procedures.
- Review and provide feedback on hydrologic and hydraulic designs for floodplain compliance.
- Coordinate with municipal staff to align reviews with local and federal regulations.
- Analyze watershed data, basin characteristics, precipitation patterns, and runoff volumes.
- Assess stormwater infrastructure designs, including detention ponds, channels, and natural drainage systems.
- Prepare and review outreach materials, present technical findings, and attend client meetings.
- Provide professional review for FEMA LOMRs, CLOMRs, and other NFIP technical submittals.
- Participate in stream restoration, development review, and regulatory compliance efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in floodplain management, NFIP processes, or development review.
- Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, including tools like HEC-RAS and GIS.
- Willingness to learn software such as CAD Civil 3D, GIS, and related modeling tools.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience working on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Proactive problem-solving abilities and a willingness to ask questions and learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5–15 years of experience in floodplain management or NFIP technical reviews.
- Familiarity with FEMA mapping products, such as LOMRs and CLOMRs.
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, hydrologic, and hydraulic modeling tools.
Additional Details

- Salary Range: $65,000–$90,000, depending on experience.
