Position Overview
As a GIS Specialist, you will collaborate with engineers, planners, and project managers to deliver exceptional GIS solutions for watershed studies, stormwater infrastructure, and land use projects. Your work will include preparing dynamic datasets, creating technical exhibits, and designing web-based mapping tools that support both internal teams and external client presentations. This position offers growth potential and the opportunity to shape our GIS services, combining your technical skills with creativity and innovation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop innovative cartographic products using ESRI and open-source GIS tools.
- Create detailed exhibits and maps to support engineering analyses, including stormwater, floodplain, and watershed studies.
- Provide geospatial data for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools like HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SWMM.
- Design and implement web-based mapping solutions for infrastructure monitoring, data collection, and public engagement.
- Build and manage GIS datasets for compliance with FEMA and state standards for flood mapping and land use analysis.
- Assist with permit applications by preparing geospatial data and exhibits for stormwater, floodplain, and wetland projects.
- Support engineering teams with geospatial data for land development, planning studies, and public presentations.
- Collaborate with clients to design geospatial solutions tailored to their unique needs, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Prepare outreach materials, attend project meetings, and present technical information to clients and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field.
- Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and similar platforms.
- Strong technical skills in GIS data development, cartography, and spatial analysis.
- Interest in civil infrastructure projects, floodplain mapping, and environmental planning.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with open-source GIS tools.
- Familiarity with FEMA mapping standards, floodplain management, or hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
- Local experience working with counties, cities, and special districts.
- Proficiency in web-based GIS tools and interactive mapping applications.
